Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Southampton defender Calum Chambers, with the 19-year-old wanted at the Emirates Stadium.

According to the BBC, Chambers underwent a medical with Arsenal earlier today, while the Gunners have also agreed a fee with the Saints for the young right-back.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been keen to sign a backup right-back, following the club's capture of Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle United earlier this summer.

Chambers is highly rated and has been capped by England at both Under-17 and Under-19 level.

The 19-year-old only signed a new contract with Southampton last summer, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.

He clocked up 21 appearances in the Premier League for the Saints last term, but now looks set to become the latest departure from St. Mary's, with the fee estimated at around £12m.

Losing Chambers will no doubt be a blow for Southampton.
