Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal admits he will be watching Kevin Strootman's return from injury with great interest, amid speculation that a bid for the Netherlands international will land from the Red Devils if he returns to Roma action without a hitch.

Strootman suffered a serious knee injury during the latter half of last season with Roma, something which ruled him out of the World Cup and put him out of action for a period of over six months.

That has not stopped him being linked with Manchester United though, especially as a fit Strootman would have been taken to the World Cup by Van Gaal.

And the 62-year-old tactician admits he knows all about the midfielder's qualities, even though he is set to wait to assess him again upon his return.

"I never say anything about individual players", Van Gaal was quoted as saying by Voetbal Primeur, when asked about Strootman.

"It is my vision to not talk about individuals.

"About Strootman I can judge, but he is out for more than six months with an injury.

"We have to see what and how he returns.

"It is not easy to say how his comeback after his injury will proceed, but we will wait and see."
