Former Netherlands national team manager Dick Advocaat has been appointed as the manager of the Serbia national team.

He replaces Sinisa Mihajlovic, who failed to guide the Eastern European nation to the World Cup finals in Brazil this summer.

Advocaat’s first job is to qualify for the European Championship in France in 2016 and his contract will be reviewed upon his success.

"We have only one target, and that is to qualify", Advocaat, who is an experienced international manager, said in a press conference.

"That is the only option we have. No excuses; the quality is there. We have to show that we can do it."
