Lazio fans are camped at Rome's airport this evening as they wait to welcome Netherlands defender Stefan de Vrij to Italy, ahead of the centre-back completing a move to the Biancocelesti.

The Serie A club have pulled out all the stops to win the race for De Vrij, seeing off strong interest from Manchester United.

The defender has just one year left on his contract at Feyenoord and the Rotterdam club have been preparing to sell him this summer.

Lazio recently made a fresh proposal for De Vrij, hitting the €8.5m mark and gaining Feyenoord's acceptance.

The 22-year-old is now expected in Rome this evening, ahead of sealing his switch to the Serie A giants.
