Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has explained that his side are hungry to succeed both on the domestic and European front in the upcoming season.

The Reds are back in the Champions League after a gap of five years, following their second-place finish in the Premier League last term.

Despite losing their star performer Luis Suarez to Barcelona, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is busy building a squad capable of challenging in both competitions and has already roped in as many as five players, namely Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Lazar Markovic and Dejan Lovren.

And Sturridge, who is happy with the club’s summer signings, feels the Merseyside giants will be ready to challenge for both the Premier League and the Champions League in the 2014/15 campaign.

"With the signings that the manager has made – exciting players, young players, with experience of the Premier League – we are going to have that winning mentality and the mentality to move forward”, the England international told his club’s official site.

"We'll be an exciting squad, playing attacking football and that's the Liverpool way. We will continue to do that.

"I will do my best and give 100 per cent, as I always do, and I'm sure the other boys will do the same. Whoever is selected will go out there with the right mentality and try to win games for Liverpool.

"We are a young, hungry squad that are looking to put our stamp down not just in the Premier League but European football as well.

"We will try to move forward as a squad with a great manager behind us who has got the exact same mentality. He is hungry for success. That is the motto – everybody is hungry for success here."

Liverpool, who are currently competing in the International Champions Cup, will begin their new campaign with a trip to Southampton on 17th August.
