Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that Luke Shaw is yet to attain his full fitness level.

The left-back, who joined the Red Devils from Southampton this summer, was seen training alone in yesterday evening’s training session.

And Van Gaal explained that Shaw is “not very fit” and hence will train separately to attain his full fitness level.

However, the Dutchman was quick to add that the England international will soon be on track after hearing positive feedback from fitness coach Tony Strudwick.

"Luke Shaw is okay. I am a coach who looks at what individual players need and I think he needs to be fit, but he is not very fit”, Van Gaal told his club’s official site.

"Therefore he cannot perform what I want, so first he has to be fit and has to train individually.

"I have spoken with him and we have made the programme. He agreed with me. I don’t know [when he will be fit], but I have heard good messages from Strudwick."

Shaw, who represented England at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, has featured in both of Manchester United’s pre-season games so far, against LA Galaxy and Roma.

The youngster cost the Old Trafford outfit a fee of £27m to sign on a four-year contract from Southampton.
