Bakkali has only one year left on his contract with PSV and has so far refused to sign a new deal, a situation which means the Eindhoven-based side are open to a sale.

“Atletico are very interested and they know what we want.”

However, Brands believes that Bakkali will not be moving out of Holland this summer and will stay at the club.

“To be honest I don’t see Zakaria going abroad. I am not ruling out the possibility of him staying at the club.

“There are some other clubs interested in him, but Atletico have concrete interest.”

The 18-year-old has made 24 first team appearances for PSV and has already earned one international cap for Belgium.
