Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes Daniel Sturridge possesses the capability to go up a level in the upcoming campaign.

The England international scored 21 Premier League goals last season, the second-highest in the division, only behind Luis Suarez, who left the Reds to join Barcelona in the summer.

However, Rodgers feels Liverpool’s goalscoring prowess will not dip this term after seeing Sturridge link-up with his international team-mate and summer signing Rickie Lambert in training.

The former Swansea City boss went on to back Sturridge to improve upon his 2013/14 tally of 24 goals in just 33 appearances in all competitions.

"I looked at the combination of Daniel Sturridge and Rickie Lambert in training today and they were exceptional; the link-up play and some of their combination play was great”, Rodgers told his club’s official site.

"We've [also] got Rickie Lambert who will get goals for us. He's starting to really get comfortable with the group.

"We've got a number of players that go and facilitate the role [of goalscoring]."

Liverpool, who finished the 2013/14 Premier League campaign in second spot, plundered in 101 league goals, just one short of champion Manchester City’s tally.
