Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has explained that he is certain about Liverpool being in the race for the Premier League crown in the 2014/15 campaign.

The Reds, who edged out the Citizens 3-1 on penalties after their International Champions Cup fixture ended 2-2 after normal time last night, were favourites to win the league title last term with three games remaining in the season.

However, dropped points against Chelsea and Crystal Palace came back to haunt Brendan Rodgers’ side as Manchester City stepped up at the right moment to finish the season in top spot and win their second Premier League title in three years.

And Pellegrini, who lauded Liverpool following their win at the Yankee Stadium, believes the Merseyside giants will be competing for the top domestic trophy in the upcoming campaign as well.

“Liverpool are a very good team, played very well”, the Chilean told his club’s official site.
