Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that he is confident about Stevan Jovetic proving his worth in the upcoming campaign.

The striker, who joined the Citizens from Fiorentina last summer, endured an injury-ravaged campaign in his first season at the Etihad Stadium.

Jovetic managed to score just six times in 18 appearances in all competitions for Manchester City last term.

However, the Montenegro international, who has been linked with a move to Inter Milan this summer, has been in great form in his side’s pre-season tour of the United States.

The 24-year-old scored twice against Liverpool last night to take his tally in the International Champions Cup to four goals in two games.

And although Pellegrini’s side lost 3-1 to penalties to the Reds, the Chilean tactician was still impressed with Jovetic’s display and tipped the forward to be an important player for Manchester City in the 2014/15 campaign.

“I have said before that Stevan is a very important player for us and he proved again what an asset he can be”, the manager told his club’s official site.

“He had a number of different injuries last season but now he is fully fit.

"I’m sure if he continues in this way he will show why he is here. If he’s fit all the year he will be a very important player for us.”
