Jonny Evans has given a sneak peak of life under Louis van Gaal at Manchester United and has painted the Dutchman as a hard taskmaster.

Van Gaal took over the reins of the club this summer after David Moyes was sacked for Manchester United’s poor form last season, where they finished seventh in the league table.

The 26-year-old defender said that Van Gaal made no bones of the fact that he will be a demanding manager from the very first day.

"The manager told us it was going to be difficult because he is demanding and he knows that himself", the Northern Ireland centre-back was quoted as saying by ITV.

"That is the standard he has set for us.”

Evans has revealed that the Dutchman is in complete charge of the team and dictates every aspect of a player’s conduct at the club.

He further added that the manager is never short of praise for a player who is doing well or a tough dressing down when he sees something wrong.

"It is everything from the clothes you wear to the time you have a meal and everyone eating together.

"He is quick to congratulate you when you have done well and is also quick to tell you when you have done something wrong."

Van Gaal’s methods have been successful on the club’s pre-season tour, but the real test will start later this month when Manchester United host Swansea City in their first league fixture of the season on 16th August.
