New Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri has revealed that he always wanted to play for an English club because he feels football in England is better than it is in Italy.

The 23-year-old joined the Peacocks from Chievo Verona on a four-year deal in the summer and is expected to be the club’s number one choice in between the sticks for the upcoming campaign.

And the Italian, who hailed his new employers, insisted he made an instant choice to come to the country once he received an offer from Leeds.

“Leeds United is a great team”, Silvestri told his club’s official site.

“I like the city, I like the training ground and I think this is a place I can enjoy. When I was young and I used to play on the PlayStation and I always played with English teams.

“When I got the call from an English team I didn’t even have to think for one minute. I wanted to come here because I love this football. Now it is better than Italy.”

Silvestri, who had loan spells at Reggiana, Padova and Cagliari during his stay at Chievo, feels tactical abundance makes Italian football slow, while the English game is fast paced.

“It is very fast. It is very different from Italy because we play a slower game there is a lot of tactics”, added the keeper.

Silvestri is yet to earn a senior cap for Italy, but has represented his nation at Under-20 and Under-21 levels.
