Former Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has revealed he spoke to Belgium team-mate Romelu Lukaku about following in his footsteps and signing for Wolfsburg.

De Bruyne quit Chelsea for the Bundesliga outfit in January this year after falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

And Wolfsburg were interested in another raid on Chelsea this summer, with striker Lukaku firmly in their sights to tempt to the Volkswagen Arena.

De Bruyne admits he spoke to his Belgium team-mate at the World Cup about a move to the Wolves, but could not convince him to head to Germany; Lukaku eventually joined Everton for £28m.

"We talked during the World Cup and he was interested", De Bruyne told Kicker.

"But he decided upon Everton", the midfielder added.

Lukaku spent last term on loan at Everton under Roberto Martinez and has become the centre-piece of the club's business this summer.
