Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has hailed manager Pep Guardiola, who he believes is a "gift from above" for his team.

The manager won four major trophies during his first year in charge of the Bavarians, including the Bundesliga, the FIFA Club World Cup and the DFB-Pokal.

And as the new season kicks off in a few weeks time, Rummenigge remains positive about the former Barcelona man's chances of winning even more trophies.

"This man is a genius", the 58-year-old told German daily Bild.

"I've seen a lot of coaches but this one is extraordinary – this coach is a gift from above."

While speaking about the manager's future at the club, Rummenigge added that Guardiola is not a "long-contract man", though his team will be eager to retain him well beyond 2016.

"Pep is not a long-contract man.

"What I understand is that in southern Europe, they like to live for the now. But if Pep feels good, then he will stay. And that includes after 2016."

Bayern Munich begin their Bundesliga campaign this year with a match against Wolfsburg on 22nd August.
