Celtic’s new signing Jason Denayer is confident that he has the ability to play for the Scottish champions.

The 19-year-old defender joined the Hoops from Manchester City on a season-long loan deal yesterday and is eager to impress.

Denayer is aware of Celtic’s rich history and is hoping to play European football this season at the club.

“It’s a good chance for me because Celtic is a good club with good history and hopefully we will have a chance to play in the Champions League as well”, the Belgian told the club’s official site.

The defender has already spoken with the Celtic manager and feels that it is now up to him to show that he is good enough to play for the Scottish champions.

He further added that he would not have joined Celtic if he didn’t have the confidence to break into the first eleven.

“When I spoke with Ronny Deila he said he will give me my chance. After that it’s not down to him, it’s me. I need to show him I can play.

“I believe I'm ready to play. Before I came here I thought of all this. If I wasn't ready I wouldn’t have come.”

Celtic will start the defence of their league title later today when they take on St. Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.
