Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer has urged the Bavarians to do all they can to sign Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund, warning that if they do not succeed, the midfielder will join Manchester United or Real Madrid.

Reus has a release clause in his contract at Dortmund which will allow him to move on next summer. It is unclear exactly what level of bid will trigger the clause, but Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has suggested it could be as low as €25m.

Dortmund are working hard to persuade Reus to agree a new contract which would remove the clause, but have so far not seen their efforts meet with success.

And Beckenbauer feels Bayern Munich must be front and centre when it comes to buying the Germany international.

Speaking to German daily Bild, Beckenbauer said: "I could see him at Bayern very well.

"If you can get a player of his talent, you need to try.

"If he does not go to Bayern in 2015, he will probably go to another big club like Real Madrid or Manchester United."

Reus has been urged to stay put at Dortmund by club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, who has told the midfielder he can become a legend with the Ruhr giants.

The midfielder missed the World Cup earlier this summer with an ankle injury.
