Wayne Rooney has explained that the Manchester United players’ prime concern is to win for everyone associated with the club and not to prove their critics wrong.

Before the Red Devils’ 2-1 loss to Swansea City on Saturday, Liverpool legend Steve McManaman insisted that the current Manchester United squad is the worst he had seen in 20 years.

And Rooney, who admitted his side endured a disappointing campaign last term, is also aware of the fact that Manchester United will continue to come under fire from all corners if their unsuccessful spell continue.

The England international hence urged his team-mates to guide the club back to success and avoid a repeat of the 2013/14 campaign.

“We are not out to prove people wrong. We are out to win things for ourselves, the fans and this club”, he told the club’s official site.

“We have to make sure we are successful. We have to make sure last season was a one-off because that was not good enough.”
