Former Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback has expressed his pride at making his debut for Newcastle United yesterday.

Colback, who was developed in the youth system at Sunderland but chose to leave the club on a free transfer when his contract expired earlier this summer, made his Newcastle debut in the Magpies' 2-0 home defeat to Manchester City.

Colback has courted controversy by signing for Sunderland's fierce rivals, but has spoken of his pride at pulling on the black and white shirt.

"I enjoyed getting that first game out of the way and it was a proud occasion", he told the BBC.

"I'm buzzing to be here and I hope that shows from the way I perform on a Saturday.

"I had a few of my family there and friends texting me good luck and the fans have been brilliant since I signed."

Colback, 24, is one of eight new signings Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has made this summer.

Fellow new boys Remy Cabella, Daryl Janmaat and Emmanuel Riviere also started the match against Manchester City.
