PSV Eindhoven striker Luuk de Jong has warned Memphis Depay against leaving for England too soon, warning that success in the Netherlands is no guarantee of being able to repeat it elsewhere.

De Jong was speaking from a position of experience, having left FC Twente to join Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012. The Dutchman flopped in Germany and then spent the latter half of last season on loan at Newcastle in the Premier League.

But De Jong failed to score a single goal at St. James' Park and Newcastle opted not to make his loan move permanent.

Now Depay has been linked with moving to England, with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur keeping a close watch on his situation at the Philips Stadion.

"A good season is no guarantee of success elsewhere, I know", De Jong told the Algemeen Dagblad.

"Of course, Memphis does have good qualities, but he has not yet fully developed.

"He also has his bad moments in games."

Depay shone with PSV in the Eredivisie last year and then further enhanced his credentials at this summer's World Cup, helping the Netherlands to a third place finish under Louis van Gaal, who is now in charge at Manchester United.
