Marouane Fellaini is watching Napoli's Champions League playoff tie against Athletic Bilbao with particular interest, with the outcome being key to whether he decides to sign for the Azzurri.

Manchester United are ready to offload Fellaini, having agreed a tentative loan deal with Napoli for the Belgium international.

But Fellaini has yet to give the green light to the switch and according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the midfielder is waiting to see whether Napoli will qualify for the Champions League group stage.

Fellaini may be in a position to make a call after the first leg, if it appears Napoli are sure to head through to the next round.

The midfielder was snapped up by Manchester United last summer from Everton for £27.5m, but endured a lacklustre debut campaign at Old Trafford.

He is thought to have been deemed surplus to requirements by new Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal, though the Dutchman will not push the midfielder out of the exit door.

Were Fellaini to remain at Old Trafford however, he would likely struggle for regular first team football.
