Arsene Wenger feels Arsenal had chances to win their Champions League playoff tie first leg against Besiktas tonight, after the contest ended 0-0 in Turkey.

Wenger's men, along with the Turkish side, enjoyed positive spells, but neither could find the breakthrough which would have handed them an advantage inside the 90 minutes.

And the evening took a turn for the worse for the Gunners when midfielder Aaron Ramsey was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 80th minute.

For Wenger, Arsenal had chances to win the game, but can at least console themselves with the knowledge they can book their spot in the Champions League group stage in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium.

"A difficult game played at a frenetic pace throughout", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"We could have won it but they had chances as well. In the end we didn't lose and hopefully we will make it at home."

Wenger's men will have to make do without Ramsey for the second leg however, with the Welshman now suspended on account of his sending off in Istanbul.
