Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar has joined Benfica after he was released by Queens Park Rangers.

Cesar joined QPR from Inter Milan in 2012 on a four-year deal, but made only 27 appearances for the London side and was Robert Green’s deputy at the club last season.

The shot-stopper joined Toronto FC on loan in February to get match practice ahead of Brazil’s World Cup campaign.

He started all seven games for Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side in the World Cup and was their hero in a penalty shoot-out against Chile in the round of 16.

However, he conceded a total of ten goals against Germany and Holland, as Brazil departed from the World Cup, battered and humiliated.
