Former Manchester United defender Gary Pallister has warned the club that they cannot afford any more results like the defeat to Swansea City last weekend.

The Red Devils had an inauspicious beginning to their season when they suffered a 2-1 home defeat at the hand of Swansea last Saturday.

Pallister believes the pre-season performances had shown enough promise to suggest that Manchester United will have a better season than the last one and feels that defeat to Swansea might just be a blip.

"One result doesn't make a season and there is certainly no need to panic. We saw enough in pre-season to expect a vast improvement on last season", the 49-year-old told the club’s official site.

The former Red Devil believes that Manchester United have an easy run of fixtures to come, but warned that the club cannot afford to fall too far behind their rivals.

"On paper we have an easier start to the season than last year and I expect United to bounce back at Sunderland.

“There is time to get it right before we start meeting the big guns, but, equally, you don't want too many results like Saturday and be falling behind before we reach that stage."

Manchester United will visit the Stadium of Light next Sunday to take on Sunderland as they try to get their season back on track.
