Liverpool are unlikely to close out the deal to sign Mario Balotelli today, which means that the Italian will not make his debut against his former club Manchester City on Monday.

The Reds agreed a £16m transfer fee for the Italian international with AC Milan yesterday, as they look to boost their attacking options.

Liverpool will resume talks with Balotelli’s representatives over the terms of his proposed move back to England today.

However, Liverpool are not expected to close out the deal by noon, and as a result Balotelli won’t be available for selection against his former club Manchester City on Monday, according to the BBC.

The player’s agent is in England on behalf of his client and is negotiating the Italian’s personal terms with the five-time European champions.

Liverpool are keen to add various clauses to the player’s contract which will reassure the club about Balotelli’s behaviour, on and off the field.

Once personal terms are agreed, the 24-year-old will travel to England to undergo a medical and sign on the dotted line at Anfield.

Balotelli scored 30 goals in 54 appearances for Milan and has scored 13 international goals for Italy.
