Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has refused to confirm the Red Devils are signing Angel di Maria from Real Madrid, but has admitted he likes the winger, just as he does Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.

Di Maria is thought to be on his way to Old Trafford after a fee between €75m and €80m was agreed between Manchester United and Real Madrid for the 26-year-old.

Van Gaal though, speaking after Manchester United's 1-1 draw away at Sunderland today, was not in the mood to confirm a deal.

"I think always the club has to announce it and when we are thinking it is the right time for a transfer then we come to you [the media] and say to you that we have bought this player or that player", the Dutchman told Sky Sports.

Van Gaal was then asked if Di Maria is a player he likes, admitting that is indeed the case, but stressing Manchester United cannot sign all the players he likes.

"Yes [I like him].

"But I like [Lionel] Messi and I like Vidal also.

"So we have a lot of players in this world that I like, but they cannot all come to Manchester United."

Di Maria is expected to have a medical with Manchester United early next week.
