Barcelona are close to sealing a deal for Brazilian full-back Douglas from Sao Paulo.

Reports of the Blaugrana’s interest in the Brazilian full-back emerged earlier this month as the club continued to hit a brick wall in their pursuit of Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado.

Dani Alves’ declaration that he wants to continue at the Nou Camp for one more season raised doubts over the deal for Douglas.

However, Barcelona officials arrived in Sao Paulo yesterday to complete the deal to sign the 24-year-old Brazilian, according to Catalunya-based daily Sport.

Barcelona will fork out a transfer fee of €6m and the 24-year-old will sign a five-year deal with the club.

Douglas is capable of playing further up in the right flank, which will provide more options to Luis Enrique this season.

The full-back has made 93 appearances for Sao Paulo and represented Brazil’s Under-20 side, but is still to feature for the senior national team.
