Former Portsmouth striker Steve Claridge has blasted Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal for his attitude after his side were thrashed 4-0 in the League Cup by MK Dons last night.

Van Gaal watched his team turn in an abject performance at Stadium MK, crashing out of one of only three competitions they are involved in this season.

However, rather than wanting to quickly blast his players in the dressing room and speak to them about their performance post-match, Van Gaal took his time heading back to the tunnel, instead signing autographs for supporters.

And former striker Claridge has hit out at the Dutchman and his approach to the tie.

"If that is the attitude he came into the game with, that is the performance he deserved", Claridge told BBC Radio 5 live.

"If I was the manager I would be waiting to get at the players, not signing autographs.

"That is exactly why you get the performance he did."

Van Gaal will hope for Manchester United to clock up the first win of his reign this coming weekend, when they face newly-promoted Burnley at Turf Moor.
