Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has denied being in for free agent Nikola Zigic, while he has also denied Manchester United's Danny Welbeck being on his radar.

Zigic's agent claimed earlier today that Wenger had been in touch over signing the striker, who he insisted is now weighing up Arsenal's offer.

But Wenger, speaking after Arsenal beat Besiktas 1-0 this evening to qualify for the Champions League group stage, gave a question on his interest in Zigic short shrift.

"Zigic? No", the Frenchman said via his club's site.

Wenger was also asked about Manchester United forward Welbeck, another player he has been linked with, and who is believed to be free to leave Old Trafford for the right price.

And again he replied: "No."

Arsenal have lost striker Olivier Giroud until the new year through injury, but Wenger is unsure on buying a replacement and feels Alexis Sanchez could do the job – and not just for three or four months.

"For three or four months? He can play there his whole life. I bought him to play as a striker, not to play only on the flanks."
