Everton manager Roberto Martinez expects new signing Samuel Eto’o to play a vital role at the club, and feels he still has the drive to attain more success personally and for the team.

The Cameroon international joined the Toffees on a two-year contract yesterday after finishing last term at Chelsea. Eto’o joins Everton with over 350 goals and 15 major honours to his name.



“He wants to still learn and push himself and for the players around him, he is going to be a really good example. He feels ready to do that – he is at an age and moment of his career where he is ready to pass messages on”, Martinez told the club site.

“But he is still as hungry as ever to reach good individual targets and do whatever he can for the team.”

 


Martinez is extremely pleased to have the Cameroonian’s services at the club, and praised him for his numerous accolades at club as well country level.

The striker has won the African Player of the Year on four occasions, and became the first player to win two European continental trebles, during his time with Barcelona and Inter Milan.

“From Champions League finals, to being a reference in his national team where he won Olympic Gold, to playing in World Cups – everything in football, he has been through”, Martinez continued.
