Arsene Wenger believes that Arsenal did well to keep Demba Ba quiet last night, which helped them to clinch the tie against Besiktas.

Wenger’s men registered a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Turkish giants and qualified for the Champions League group stage.

The Arsenal manager feels Besiktas were always going to make life difficult for the Gunners as the Turks were coming into the tie on the back of some good results.

He further added that the Turkish giants are a tough team to play against because they are a very well oiled unit, who are physically imposing.

“You must give credit to Besiktas when you look at their results in pre-season”, the Frenchman told the club’s official site.

“You understand why they beat all the teams they met until now because they are a close unit, well organised, physically very strong and technically very good.”

Apart from a chance late in the game, Wenger feels that Arsenal did very well to stop the former Chelsea striker from imposing himself on the game.

“We kept Ba quiet tonight – he had one chance on the header that was close to the end – that would have killed us but apart from that I thought we kept him quiet tonight.”
