Former Catania coach Rolando Maran has been installed as the immediate favourite to take over from David Hockaday at Leeds United.

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino showed Hockaday the door last night following the club's 2-1 League Cup defeat against Bradford City on Wednesday.

Now the former Cagliari supremo is looking for a successor to Hockaday and Maran is favourite for the post.

The 51-year-old Italian has been installed as the 4/5 favourite by English bookmakers, who expect Cellino to hand him the reins at Elland Road.

Maran was most recently in charge of Catania, but found himself sacked in April.

He has managed a number of clubs in Italian football, with his coaching career taking in spells at Cittadella, Brescia, Bari, Trestina, Vicenza, Varese and Catania.

Leeds are currently floundering in the Championship after suffering a poor start to the season.

The White have lost three of their opening four games, a factor which led to Hockaday's dismissal.
