Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has promised he will continue to look for new signings right up until the closure of the transfer window on Monday night.

Wenger is in the market for a new centre-back, following Thomas Vermaelen's sale to Barcelona earlier this summer, while he is also open to adding another striker to his ranks given the news that Olivier Giroud will be out until the new year through injury.

The Frenchman is now set to scour the transfer market to try to find new additions.

Speaking at a press conference this morning, Wenger explained: "I will be on alert until the last minute.

"We have shown in the last two seasons that if there are players to buy we will do it."

Wenger pulled a rabbit out of the hat last summer, when he swooped to snap up Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for a fee of £42.5m, and feels the final few days of the window are like "poker".

"The last few days are like poker games."

Arsenal have recently been linked with Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Atletico Madrid centre-back Toby Alderweireld.
