Chelsea have confirmed that they have agreed to loan Fernando Torres to AC Milan on a two-year deal.

The Rossoneri have been negotiating to sign the Spanish striker as a replacement for Mario Balotelli, who they recently sold to Liverpool for £16m.

Chelsea announced: "Chelsea Football Club and AC Milan have agreed terms for the two-year loan deal of Fernando Torres to the Italian club.

"The move is now subject to Fernando agreeing personal terms with AC Milan and passing a medical examination."

Torres has slipped down the striking pecking order at Stamford Bridge since Jose Mourinho took over last summer, with the arrivals in the current transfer window of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba reducing his playing chances even further.

Chelsea bought Torres from Liverpool in January 2011, paying the Merseyside club a fee of £50m, which remained a British record transfer fee until Manchester United paid £59.7m for Angel di Maria this summer.

Torres will now hope to relaunch his career in Italy with AC Milan.
