Xabi Alonso has passed his medical with Bayern Munich and put pen to paper on a two-year contract with the Bavarians.

Real Madrid allowed the 32-year-old to head to Germany for talks and a medical with Bayern Munich yesterday and Alonso has quickly agreed to join Pep Guardiola's men.

Bayern Munich announced: "On Friday, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid agreed on a final exchange of the Spanish world and European champion to Munich and he signed his contract."

The German champions have acted quickly to sign Alonso, with Javi Martinez having been ruled out until the new year with a knee injury.

Alonso joined Real Madrid in 2009 from Liverpool and helped Los Blancos claim a record tenth European Cup last season.
