Arsenal have made a late, late move to hijack Chelsea's swoop for QPR striker Loic Remy.

Chelsea have activated Remy's release clause at Loftus Road and are hurrying to tie up his arrival, with the Frenchman earmarked to replace Fernando Torres, now at AC Milan, at Stamford Bridge.

However, they will now have to hold off a challenge from Arsene Wenger's Arsenal for the Marseille man, as the Gunners boss bids to trump rival Jose Mourinho for the striker's signature.

According to Sky Italia, Arsenal have matched Chelsea's release clause equalling bid for Remy and now the ball is in the player's court to decide on his next move.

Chelsea are still believed to hold the advantage in the race for Remy, on account of the fact they moved first for the striker.

Remy had been due to play for QPR against Sunderland earlier today, but was pulled out by boss Harry Redknapp due to continuing transfer activity around the player.

It is extremely unlikely Remy will still be a QPR player by Monday evening.
