Benfica are ready to make a bid of around €10m for Arsenal’s Costa Rican attacker Joel Campbell.

Campbell had a fruitful loan spell at Olympiacos last season and returned to Arsenal this summer after Costa Rica’s World Cup adventure ended in the quarter-finals.

Arsene Wenger has hinted that he wants to keep the 22-year-old at the Emirates this season and is not contemplating a move for him.

However Benfica, who are desperate to sign an attacking option, are ready to make a last ditch effort to sign the Costa Rican in the last days of the transfer window.

The Portuguese outfit are ready to test Arsenal’s resolve with a €10m bid for Campbell, according to O Jogo.

As Aguias believe that the financial offer is good enough to tempt the Gunners to sanction the 22-year-old’s sale.

However, with Olivier Giroud out until the new year through injury, it remains to be seen whether Wenger is ready to sell an attacking option and further deplete his resources.
