Manchester United have officially confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Ajax to complete the signing of defender-cum-midfielder Daley Blind.

The move is now subject to the Dutchman agreeing personal terms with the Red Devils and then passing a medical, two steps which are not anticipated to cause a problem for the English side.

Manchester United are thought to have agreed to pay Ajax a fee of around €18m for the Netherlands international.

Blind had been identified as a key target by Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, who bossed the player at the World Cup with the Netherlands this summer.

The Dutchman shone in Brazil and is familiar with Van Gaal's preferred 3-5-2 formation.

For Ajax, losing Blind so close to the closure of the transfer window is a big blow, but the Dutch side's asking price for the player has been met.

Blind will link up with fellow new signings Marcos Rojo and Angel di Maria at Old Trafford; Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera also joined Manchester United this summer.
