Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has saluted his side's 3-0 destruction of Tottenham Hotspur today, explaining that the main thing boss Brendan Rodgers will be pleased with is the clean sheet.

The Reds were hungry from the off at White Hart Lane and took the lead through Raheem Sterling in just the 8th minute of the match.

Joe Allen was then brought down in the box in the 49th minute, allowing Gerrard to step up and blast the penalty home, putting Liverpool 2-0 up early in the second half.

However, Liverpool's best was yet to come as Alberto Moreno robbed the ball off Andros Townsend in the Reds' half, blasted forward, ran 60 yards and drilled the ball past Hugo Lloris to score Liverpool's third.

"It was very good. I think we're more pleased with the clean sheet than our attacking play, that was superb again", Gerrard told Sky Sports, when asked about the performance.

"We're a threat. We've got attacking players, the challenge for this team is can we defend better?

"I'm sure the manager's going to be buzzing with the clean sheet", Gerrard added.

Sterling was handed the man of the match award, while Mario Balotelli, who turned out for around an hour, also impressed.
