Daley Blind's father, Danny Blind, believes a move to Manchester United is the perfect step forward for his son and will see the defender-cum-midfielder link up with one of football's elite.

Ajax, where Danny is assistant coach, announced yesterday that they had agreed to sell Daley to Manchester United for a fee of €17.5m.

The Netherlands international was then released from the club's squad for today's game against FC Groningen and is now set to undergo a medical and agree personal terms with Manchester United.

For Danny, his son's move is exactly the right one for his career.

"He has walked his path and basically he's coming into his best years now", Danny told Dutch broadcaster NOS.

"So I think this is a perfect step", the former defender added.

Danny also feels that his son is heading to link up with one of the biggest clubs in the world, a team that sit in an elite group of merely a handful of sides.

"They are one of the biggest European clubs, even worldwide.

"You have Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, and Manchester United are included in that."

Daley came in for serious criticism at times at Ajax, only recently beginning to be appreciated due to his performances at the Amsterdam ArenA and with the Netherlands.

And Danny is delighted Ajax coach Frank de Boer and former Netherlands boss, now Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal, kept the faith.

"I'm enormously grateful to Frank that he has always believed, in spite of some views. This also applies to Van Gaal."
