Arsenal have seen an enquiry for defender Virgil van Dijk knocked back by Celtic.

The Scottish champions have been firm in their desire to keep the Dutchman at Celtic Park this summer, despite much interest in his services.

It has now emerged that one of those clubs to try their luck for Van Dijk was none other than Arsene Wenger's Arsenal.

According to Dutch magazine Voetbal International, within the last two days Arsenal contacted Celtic to ask about the defender's availability.

However, the Gunners were given the same response as Van Dijk's other suitors, with a message that the defender is not for sale.
