Cristiano Ronaldo believes Manchester United have been in need of adding top players to their squad in order to improve on what has been a disappointing start to their season.

The 29-year-old, who spent six years of his senior career with the Red Devils, expressed his delight at Manchester United's summer signings, with Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao putting pen to paper for the club during the last week of the transfer window.

"They have done well with the transfers of Di Maria and Falcao", the Real Madrid player was quoted as saying by Voetbal Primeur.

"I look forward to seeing a stronger Manchester United because they are a fantastic club.

"Manchester United haven't started well, with just two points from three games", he added.

"They are in need of top players and Falcao is such a player."

Despite what was expected to be a straight-forward fixture list at the beginning of their new campaign, the Red Devils have only accumulated two points in three league games so far, with a 4-0 defeat to third tier club MK Dons in the League Cup adding to their misery. Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney have been the only scorers with one goal each since the start of the new season.

Although Di Maria and Falcao are both new to the English Premier League, boss Louis van Gaal will have high hopes for his new signings, with expectation mounting that they will follow in Ronaldo's footsteps.
