Nigel de Jong has signalled his willingness to extend his contract with AC Milan after an expected offer from Manchester United failed to materialise.

De Jong, who played under current Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal for the Netherlands at this summer's World Cup, was strongly linked with the Red Devils throughout the transfer window.

AC Milan made clear they were not open to his departure however and no bid from Manchester United arrived.

And, according to Milan News, the Dutch midfielder informed the club recently he is willing to talk over an extension to his contract.

The Rossoneri have reacted with delight, assuring De Jong that they will soon start talks to keep him at the San Siro.
