The Premier League has approved Tom Cleverley's loan switch to Aston Villa from Manchester United, according to multiple reports.

Cleverley was strongly linked with joining Aston Villa yesterday, but confusion reigned over whether he had completed a move to Paul Lambert's men before the transfer window closed.

The Premier League have now ruled on the matter however and Cleverley will be playing his football at Villa Park this season.

The midfielder had been declared surplus to requirements at Manchester United by Louis van Gaal.

However, the ball was left entirely in Cleverley's court as to whether he wished to move on in search of regular first team football.

He has taken that option and will now turn out for Lambert's Aston Villa, hoping to feature week in week out.

It is unclear whether the loan deal contains a provision relating to a potential permanent move.

Cleverley had also been linked with Everton.
