The Premier League are set to decide whether a loan deal agreed between Aston Villa and Manchester United for Tom Cleverley can proceed.

Paul Lambert's men reached an agreement to sign Cleverley on loan late last night, but there is confusion over whether the registration documents were submitted in time.

Now, according to the BBC, the Premier League are set to rule on whether Cleverley can move to Aston Villa.

The midfielder had been in talks with Aston Villa, but his wages at Manchester United, which Villa would have to pay, were understood to be a stumbling block.

It was also claimed Cleverley turned up at Everton's training ground last night, in the hope of joining the Toffees.

However, if he does leave Old Trafford, it will now only be for Aston Villa.

The midfielder has been ruled surplus to requirements at Old Trafford by Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.
