Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has confirmed that Dani Alves' contract with the club ends in June next year.

Zubizarreta's statement contradicts the right-back's claims, who a few weeks ago said that his contract with the Catalan giants runs until 2016.

The 52-year-old also revealed that there is no automatic extension clause in the Brazilian's contract and if the club feel the need to extend his stay, they will sit down and talk about a new contract again.

"The interpretation of his contract has been discussed between the two parties", Zubizarreta was quoted as saying by Spanish daily Marca.

"We have studied it thoroughly and have agreed that his contract ends in 2015."

Having earlier thought that his future was secure for at least the next two years, the 31-year-old is now expected to find it difficult to maintain his €11m pay package, if Barcelona let him go.

Alves joined Barcelona in 2008 and has managed a total of 299 matches for the Spanish side since then, scoring 20 goals.

He has also been an integral part of the Brazil national team, having earned a total of 74 caps for the Canarinho since 2006.
