Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt insists that Arsenal did not make a bid for striker Klass-Jan Huntelaar before the transfer window closed and has stated his hope that the Dutchman stays put.

Huntelaar has just one year remaining on his contract with Schalke and it had been speculated Arsenal made a late dash to snap him up before the transfer window slammed shut.

The striker stayed put, with Heldt saying there was no offer, but he is set to attract much attention as January approaches if he has not extended his contract with the Ruhr giants.

"Klaas is part of our squad and we can at least imagine him extending", Heldt told Kicker.

"Huntelaar is a class player, an absolute professional, determined and hungry for success.

"There was no offer from Arsenal or other clubs", he added.

Huntelaar, who counts Real Madrid and AC Milan amongst his former clubs, joined Schalke in 2010 and instantly found his goalscoring boots.

The Dutchman hit 13 in his first term, but followed that up with 48 goals in 48 games in the next campaign.

In total Huntelaar has scored 92 goals in 140 games for Schalke.
