New Leeds United signing Mirco Antenucci admits he is unsure whether the team can win promotion this season, but does believe the club deserve more than playing in the Championship.

Antenucci, who was prolific in front of goal in Serie B last season, is one of a number of recruits from Italy to have landed at Elland Road over the summer.

The striker is impressed with what he has experienced in England so far, but is not yet sure Leeds have what it takes in the current campaign to reach the Premier League.

"Everybody welcomed me very well. The city is amazing, the fans follow the team really closely", he told Gianlucadimarzio.com.

"But there’s a different mentality compared to Italy. If we lose a game, they cheer, then the stadiums are always packed but it’s exciting to play in front of a lot of people.

"My goal is to have a great season with the team in order to gain promotion.

"I don’t know if we’ll succeed in the first year because we changed a lot, but this city deserves more than the Championship", the striker added.

And Antenucci, who joined Leeds from Ternana after being chased by the Whites for much of the summer, is not at present thinking of a return to Italy, as he is loving life at Leeds.

"As for now, I live this good experience. I’m happy and pumped up. We’ll see in the future [about returning to Italy]", he said.
