Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal believes his side's 4-0 win over QPR today is a good sign and has revealed that his former assistant at Bayern Munich, now at Arsenal, reminded him he needed until his fourth game to get a win with the Bavarians and then won the title.

Van Gaal's men crushed QPR at Old Trafford today, with goals from Angel di Maria, Ander Herrera, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata completing a comfortable afternoon's work.

The Red Devils dominated throughout, with QPR second best and Van Gaal happy post-match and clocking up his first win in charge of the club.

And when asked about similarities with his time at Bayern Munich, when he needed to wait four games to get his first win in his first season, and then promptly won the league, admitted he had already been reminded of as much by Andries Jonker, now head of Arsenal's youth set-up.

"My assistant, now working for Arsenal, said the same before the match already", Van Gaal told Sky Sports.

"And now we have one goal more [than I did at Bayern Munich], so maybe it's a good signal", the Dutchman added.

Van Gaal also used the clash against QPR to introduce loan signing Radamel Falcao off the bench for his first taste of life as a Manchester United player.

The Colombian had one good chance to score, but saw his effort saved by QPR goalkeeper Rob Green.

Manchester United are next in action against Leicester City next weekend.
