Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is confident that the Merseyside giants can qualify from their Champions League group.

The Reds, back in the competition after an absence of five years, have been grouped alongside Basel, Real Madrid and Ludogorets Razgrad, against whom they start their campaign tomorrow at Anfield.

Lovren feels the group will be tough, but stressed he has full confidence in Liverpool's ability to reach the knockout phase by finishing in the top two.

"It's pleasing for everyone to be back in the Champions League after five years", the defender told a press conference.

"And now we want success here in the Champions League.

"I will not say we have an easy group, but I am sure that we can pass the group and the most important thing is to win the first game.

"After that it will be much easier if you start the Champions League with three points", he concluded.

Following their clash against Ludogorets Razgrad tomorrow, Liverpool's next Champions League match sees them travel to Switzerland to play Basel on 1st October.
