Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has admitted that his side are disappointed to lose Mathieu Debuchy through injury, ahead of their Champions League opener against Borussia Dortmund tonight.

The right-back, who joined the Gunners from their Premier League rivals Newcastle United in July, picked up an ankle injury during his side’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City at the weekend.

Debuchy had to be stretchered off the pitch and the extent of the injury is still unknown.

However Szczesny, who considers Debuchy to be an important player for Arsenal, is hopeful about the Frenchman returning to action soon.

"It's very disappointing to lose such an important player", he told his club’s official site.

"He's had a very strong start to the season, he's very experienced and he's a very solid right back so we're disappointed to lose him but hopefully he'll be back as soon as possible.”

But Szczesny revealed that he is confident about Arsenal’s defence coping in Debuchy’s absence against Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park.

"I have no difficulty playing with any of the defenders. We try to communicate in training so I don’t think that’s too much of an issue”, he added.

Debuchy, whose contract with Arsenal runs until 2019, has thus far made seven appearances in all competitions for the club.
